CP Meet Cute

Community GuidelinesĀ

Participants in CP Meet Cute agree to:

  • Avoid making generalizations about any groups of people or genres or age categories of written work. This includes genre/age category snobbery, or generalizations about persons of color, Native Americans, LGBTQIA, persons with disabilities, religious groups, cultural groups, political parties, socioeconomic classes, age ranges, etc.
  • Refrain from bullying, harassment, or any other behavior intended to intimidate or belittle another participant.
  • Treat everyone in your match group with courtesy and respect and give other participants the benefit of the doubt when possible.
  • Keep all materials shared within the critique group confidential, including contact information, writing, and any other personal information.
  • Agree to use Content Warnings where appropriate (see Content Warnings below).

Julie Artz and her team reserve the right to remove anyone who violates this policy from their assigned critique group.

Content Warnings

Sometimes our writing will tackle tough topics and that is absolutely OK. But in order to keep CP Meet Cute a safe and supportive environment, we also want to be sensitive to the fact that certain content might be triggering for participants. I never want someone to feel obligated to listen to, read, or give feedback on something that is triggering to them. Please note that it's a good idea to share these same content warnings with your beta readers, critique partners, and other writing friends.

In order to preserve this wonderful safe space we've created, I ask that everyone that participates in CP Meet Cute use what's called a Content Warning before sharing any material that contains one of the following topics:

  • Graphic or explicit violence or death on page
  • Self-harm, suicide, or suicidal thoughts
  • Sexual violence
  • Racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, misogyny, etc.
  • Hate speech or slurs
  • Stalking or harassment
  • Violence toward animals
  • Abuse
  • Incest
  • Eating disorders, fatphobia, or dysphoria
  • Graphic medical descriptions or bodily fluids (esp. blood, vomit, or birth described on page)
  • Death or harm of a child
  • Miscarriage or abortion
  • Drug or alcohol abuse or addiction

How to Include a Content Warning

You are still welcomed to bring materials that contain items from the list above to your CP Meet Cute group. But please do post clearly at the top of the submission that there is a content warning and what the content warning is. For example, in a scene that include an attempted murder, I might include at the top of my submission: Content Warning: Violence (attempted murder with a knife)

Letting others in the group know about this content in advance gives them the option to step away while the triggering content is discussed or to decline to give feedback on the material. When in doubt, use the content warning.
